| Abstract | Posebnost neprofitnih organizacija ogleda se u činjenici da je njihova misija usmjerena na ostvarenje ciljeva značajnih društvenih dobrobiti pri čemu nisu usmjerene na ostvarenje dobiti, već upravo dobrobiti za širu zajednicu. Međutim, financijska su im sredstva potrebna kako bi provodile aktivnosti usmjerene ostvarivanju postavljenih ciljeva. Općenito, financijska održivost smatra se najvećim izazovom takvih organizacija, a za njezino ostvarenje potrebno je osigurati određenu razinu financijskih sredstava koja će organizaciji kroz određeno razdoblje omogućiti korištenje prilika i reagiranje na neočekivane prijetnje bez dovođenja u opasnost ispunjenja misije i mogućnosti provedbe planiranih aktivnosti.
U ovom se doktorskom radu istražuje financijska održivost udruga kao najbrojnijih neprofitnih organizacija u Republici Hrvatskoj koje čine više od 94 % ukupnog broja svih neprofitnih organizacija. Osnovni je cilj ovoga istraživanja analizirati čimbenike financijske održivosti neprofitnih organizacija (diverzifikacija prihoda, brojnost projekata, ljudskih potencijala, donatora, partnera i tehnika prikupljanja sredstava te gospodarska djelatnost) te utvrditi njihov doprinos financijskoj održivosti i njihovu međusobnu povezanost. Čimbenici financijske održivosti otkriveni su u okviru provedenog istraživanja radova drugih autora koji su se bavili tom temom, međutim do sada čimbenici financijske održivosti nisu kolektivno istraživani niti je analizirana njihova povezanost kao niti mjeren njihov utjecaj na financijsku održivost neprofitnih organizacija. Upravo je u tom području utvrđena potreba za provedbom daljnjih aplikativnih istraživanja u cilju poboljšanja stanja u praksi.
Budući da ne postoji jednoznačan način mjerenja financijske održivosti neprofitnih organizacija, pa tako ni udruga, financijska održivost se u ovome istraživanju mjeri na dva načina − na temelju samoprocjene čelnika udruga o financijskoj održivosti te na temelju strukture i prosječno ostvarene vrijednosti prihoda udruga u razdoblju 2015. – 2019. godine.
U empirijskom istraživanju, koje se provodi elektroničkim putem metodom anketnog upitnika, sudjelovali su čelnici udruga, a analizirani su i financijski izvještaji udruga. Znanstveni doprinos rada ogleda se u teorijskom doprinosu temeljenom na sistematizaciji prethodnih istraživanja na temu financijskog poslovanja, odnosno financijske održivosti neprofitnih organizacija, metodološkom doprinosu koji uključuje korelacijsku i regresijsku analizu doprinosa utvrđenih čimbenika financijskoj održivosti udruga kao najbrojnijih neprofitnih organizacija u Republici Hrvatskoj. Praktični, odnosno aplikativni doprinos ogleda se u danim smjernicama za upravljanje najznačajnijim čimbenicima financijske održivosti udruga u cilju ostvarivanja njihova dugoročnog opstanka.
Rezultati empirijskog istraživanja pokazuju da na temelju samoprocjene čelnika udruga ni jedan čimbenik financijske održivosti nema statističku značajnost. Međutim, mjereći financijsku održivost prosječnim prihodima udruga u promatranom razdoblju, broj ljudskih potencijala u udrugama djelomice pozitivno doprinosi financijskoj održivosti udruga, dok brojnost partnera udruga u potpunosti pozitivno doprinosi financijskoj održivosti udruga. Ostali čimbenici − diverzifikacija prihoda, brojnost projekata, donatora i tehnika prikupljanja sredstava te gospodarska djelatnost udruga i financijska održivost mjerena visinom prihoda, ne pokazuju statističku značajnost. S obzirom na rezultate istraživanja, preporuke za buduća istraživanja idu u smjeru izbjegavanja korištenja samoprocjene kao mjere financijske održivosti te se uočava potreba za razvijanjem standardiziranih mjera financijske održivosti neprofitnih organizacija, pa tako i udruga čiji primaran cilj nije stjecanje dobiti. Također, znanstvenici bi mogli istražiti i neke druge čimbenike koji nisu obuhvaćeni ovim istraživanjem, odnosno utvrditi njihovu važnost i povezanost s financijskom održivosti.
Osim toga, preporuke čelnicima udruga idu u smjeru nužnosti razumijevanja čimbenika koji mogu doprinijeti financijskoj održivosti udruga kroz povećanje prihoda, ali i mogućnosti učinkovitog upravljanja identificiranim čimbenicima. Ovo istraživanje može doprinijeti zajednici u smislu shvaćanja obuhvata neprofitnog sektora općenito, s naglaskom na udruge kao najbrojnije neprofitne organizacije, te prikaza izazova s kojima se susreću i razumijevanja posebnosti financijskog poslovanja takvih organizacija. |
| Abstract (english) | The peculiarity of non-profit organisations is reflected in the fact that their mission is to achieve significant social benefits, not profit-oriented, but for the benefit of the wider community. However, they need financial resources to carry out activities aimed at achieving the set objectives. In general, financial sustainability is the greatest challenge for such organisations and to achieve it, it is necessary to ensure a certain level of financial resources that will enable the organisation, over a certain period of time, to seize opportunities and respond to unexpected threats without jeopardising the fulfilment of its mission and the ability to carry out planned activities.
This doctoral thesis examines the financial sustainability of associations as the most numerous non-profit organisations in the Republic of Croatia, which account for more than 94 % of the total number of all non-profit organisations. The main goal of this research is to analyse the factors of financial sustainability of non-profit organisations (revenue diversification, the number of projects, donors, human resources, partners and fundraising techniques, as well as the economic activity) and to determine their contribution to financial sustainability and their interconnection. The factors of financial sustainability were identified in the framework of the conducted research of the works of other authors who dealt with this topic, however, so far, the factors of financial sustainability have not been collectively researched, nor has their interconnection been analysed or their impact on the financial sustainability of non-profit organisations measured. It is in this area that the need for further applied research has been identified with the aim of improving the situation in practice.
Since there is no unambiguous way of measuring the financial sustainability of non-profit organisations, including associations, financial sustainability in this research is measured in two ways - based on the self-assessment of the leaders of the associations about financial sustainability and based on the structure and average revenue of the associations in the period of 2015 − 2019.
The empirical study, which is conducted electronically using the questionnaire method, involved the leaders of the associations and analysed the financial reports of the associations. The scientific contribution of the research is reflected in a theoretical contribution based on the systematisation of previous research on the financial operations, i.e. financial sustainability of non-profit organisations, a methodological contribution that includes a correlational and regressive analysis of the contributions of the identified factors to the financial sustainability of associations as the most numerous non-profit organisations in the Republic of Croatia, and a practical, i.e. applicative contribution that is reflected in the given guidelines for managing the most significant factors of the financial sustainability of associations with the aim of achieving their long-term survival.
The results of the empirical research show that, based on the self-assessment of the association leaders, not a single factor of financial sustainability has statistical significance. However, measuring financial sustainability by the average revenue of associations in the observed period, the number of human resources in associations partially contributes positively to the financial sustainability of associations, while the number of partners of associations fully contributes positively to the financial sustainability of associations.
Other factors − revenue diversification, the number of projects, donors, and fundraising techniques, as well as the economic activity of associations and financial sustainability measured by the amount of revenue do not show statistical significance. Considering the results of the research, the recommendations for future research are to avoid using self-assessment as a measure of financial sustainability and the need to develop standardised measures of financial sustainability of non-profit organisations, including associations whose primary goal is not to make a profit. In addition, scientists could examine some other factors not covered by this research, i.e., their relevance and connection to financial sustainability.
Furthermore, the recommendations to the leaders of associations emphasise the need to understand the factors that can contribute to the financial sustainability of the association by increasing revenues, but also the possibilities of effective management of the identified factors. This research can contribute to the community in terms of understanding the scope of the non-profit sector in general, with an emphasis on associations as the most numerous non-profit organisations, the challenges they face, as well as understanding the specifics of the financial operations of such organisations. |
